NHL
2016-2017 Season Begins
Today is the day all hockey fans
including me have been looking forward to the entire summer: the start of NHL
hockey season. To us, the start of hockey season is like Christmas come early. Each
and every NHL team will get a new start and once again begin their quest for
the Stanley Cup.
The excitement and anticipation has
been building for months, and tonight is the night when it finally begins. The
premiere game starts at 7 PM when the newly revamped Toronto Maple Leafs square
off against the Ottawa Senators in Auston Matthews’s first NHL regular season
game. Then, the St. Louis Blues battle the Chicago Blackhawks at 8 PM in a
rematch of last year’s playoff series. This fierce matchup will be tonight’s
Wednesday night rivalry game on NBCSN.
Soon after, hockey fans on the west
coast will begin to see their teams in action. At 10 PM, the Calgary Flames
will play the Edmonton Oilers in an Alberta rivalry game at Rogers Arena.
Tonight’s game will be the first ever regular season game in the new building.
Led by last year’s rookie sensation Connor McDavid, the Oilers are looking for
a breakout season and possible playoff berth.
Last but not least, the LA Kings will
face the San Jose Sharks in a rematch of their playoff series. San Jose beat LA
in 5 games, so LA will be looking for some revenge when they visit the very
loud SAP Center at 10:30 PM. Though it’s only the first night of the NHL
season, there’s already a lot to look forward to and be excited about. We’re now
back in business for a new hockey season.
