Game of
the Night
Last night’s game between the Toronto
Maple Leafs and Ottawa Senators saw Auston Matthews become the first player in
NHL history to score 4 goals in a debut game. Not only did he score 4 goals in
his first NHL game, but he looked like a seasoned veteran the way he played.
His 2nd goal of the game at
14:18 showed everyone why he’s being touted as the next big thing. Using his
incredible skill, he expertly stickhandled through 3 Senators including
superstar defenseman Erik Karlsson to enter the offensive zone. He then snuck a
shot past goalie Craig Anderson to cap off an amazing individual effort. Keep
in mind that this was his first ever game in the NHL, but he played as if he’s
been doing this for years.
Another game from last night wasn’t as
noteworthy as the Toronto game, but is still worthy of being mentioned. The
Edmonton Oilers had a convincing 7-4 win against their provincial rival Calgary
Flames in their first game at their new building, Rogers Place. Connor McDavid
scored 2 goals, including one on the first ever penalty shot at Rogers Place.
After christening their new building with a win, the Oilers hope to continue
their success as the season goes on.
