Hey
everyone! It’s Friday again, which means it’s once again time for a weekly recap!
Here’s what’s been happening:
Panthers
Unveil New Logo
The Florida Panthers have introduced a
new logo. The revamped emblem and jersey design were revealed last night. The
emblem features a newly stylized panther head inside a shield. Above the head
are white letters on a red background. The jersey is now bright red colored
with a white jersey tie at the top. The Panthers will begin wearing these
jerseys at the start of the 2016-17 season.
Muller
Rejoins Canadiens
Former Montreal player and coach Kirk
Muller returns to the Canadiens for a third time. He will serve as an associate
coach and is responsible for shaping the power play. Muller played in 19 NHL
seasons with the Devils, Canadiens, Islanders, Maple Leafs, Panthers, and
Stars. He won the 1993 Stanley Cup with Montreal and served on their coaching
staff from 2006-2011. He was also the head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes
from 2011-2014. He then served as an assistant coach in St. Louis from
2014-2016.
Cizikas Signs
5-year Contract Extension with Islanders
Islanders
fourth line center Casey Cizikas has signed a $16.75 million contract extension
through the 2020-21 season. Cizikas was picked 92nd overall in the
2009 NHL Draft. He has 82 points in 290 regular season games and 8 points in 24
playoff games. Islanders GM Garth Snow said, “he’s developed into a dependable
two-way center. His energy and passion both on and off the ice make him an
invaluable piece of our lineup.”
